Invincible Living

It’s been an embarrassingly long time since I last blogged. Running MWJ is a little bit full time job + having a child. But I’ve been getting the gentle nudge from some trusted peeps, so here I am. And I’m going to do my very best to stay a bit more consistent with it.

Since this past winter I have become completely addicted to Kundalini Yoga. It has been truly life changing. I kept on seeing this Kundalini mama Guru Jagat in my Instagram feed through other yogis and wellness babes. Around that time I heard she was coming to NYC from her studio RA MA Institute in Venice, CA to do a workshop at the sweet Maha Rose in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. I had been getting more intrigued with the idea of the Kundalini which I only have practiced a handful of times in the past so it was perfect timing. I went to the workshop where we mostly sat on meditation cushions and did all kinds of breathwork, often with wild arms, and every once and a while we did movements more like cat and cow than any yoga pose you would typically do in class. It felt a little cult like, but I didn’t mind it. And afterward I felt freaking amazing. High even. I came home and immediately bought her book, which for starters is absolutely beautiful and so wonderfully put together. It reads more like a lifestyle book than self help and I don’t know if I have ever read a yoga related book cover to cover like this one. From meditations to beauty, self care, and I absolutely LOVE her section on relationships. This woman (guided by the teachings of Yogi Bhajan) really knows what she is talking about. And I can always get behind a woman that is SO gracefully confident and killing it in real life with two yoga studios (NYC as a 3rd on the way), a book, record label, and more. Invincible Living is accessible to the most ‘non yogic’ person and I love that she insisted that it be sold at Walmart so that it would reach everyone. And ‘everyone’ is who this book is for. You can do some of these exercises in your car, in line at the grocery store, where ever. Or you can do a 90 minute practice and really go deep. She offers free classes that you can stream on her RAMA TV. What you begin to see is that yoga is almost all about our breath. And that sometimes gets lost in translation in a typical yoga class. So much emphasis tends to go into the movement, but that’s not usually where the transformation comes from. I have literally seen loved ones LIFE CHANGE with this practice and that includes myself. I truly believe Kundalini is the future of yoga. You can shift things like fear, negativity, doubt, any kind of  blocks so crazy fast! It’s truly magical. I am currently over half way done a 90 day ‘auric projection’ meditation that has given me so much power, peace, healing, and clarity.

We are now infusing all kinds of Kundalini into our classes at MWJ. In my classes and Sarah Hummel is teaching two weekly straight up Kundalini classes (Tuesdays at 9am and Wednesdays at 6pm) plus Jess Naim is teaching a Thursday 7:30pm Meditation class with all kinds of Kundalini goodness in it. Sarah is off to Spain this Monday for the first bit of her Kundalini teacher training and Jess and I are headed to California in September to be with GJ for the first of seven weekends of our Immense Grace Women’s Leadership Training (my gift to myself for our 5 year MWJ anniversary in October!). Can’t wait to infuse even more healing into our offerings here.

The Immense Grace book is now available at MWJ of course and check the schedule to join us for some real magic.

Love.
