Join Deb Brownstein for this awesome workshop all about Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP) and how yoga can help!
1 in 5 women have pelvic organ prolapse (POP). That’s a lot, right? This condition affects millions of women worldwide. POP occurs when the pelvic floor cannot sufficiently support one of the organs situated directly above it, such as the rectum, cervix or bladder, and one of these parts drop down into the vaginal canal below. Commonly, this creates a feeling in the vagina of bulging, heaviness or pressure, like “something” might fall out.
We hear this so often with prenatal and postpartum students in yoga it seems like it’s time to get the word out to the yogis. Too often women wait until it's REALLY bad before seeking help from their health care provider, hopefully a holistic pelvic floor PT. What if we yogis became educated before it got too bad? This condition is present in women who have never had children too but is most commonly found in postpartum women who have had a vaginal birth with some trauma (forceps, vacuum delivery) and also in peri-menopausal women. It’s not the end of the world and there are several things that can help.
In this workshop we do what yogis do: bring awareness to areas of our body we want to explore further. We will start with a little pelvic floor anatomy and then move into what the different types of POP are, what you might feel and how and why this happens to so many women. We will visualize it so we can connect with it.
Toward the second half we will talk about common treatments out there and what you can explore in your body (looking, touching, breathing) before you go to your health care provider. It's very empowering for a woman to know her body this well. Come and learn how to expand your cache of healing tools and body literacy so you can seek the help you need. We all want to address POP before we head into menopause...one day in a galaxy far far away. Join me for this informative one hour session you won’t want to miss.
