Over the years of being a Yoga teacher, Doula, and daughter of one of the most amazing and knowledgable women I know when it comes to holistic health, I have spent a great deal of time advising women on where to go for this or that. Here is the master list (including prenatal and postpartum services) for the Philadelphia area!
Facials: Mary at Affordable Skincare in Fishtown has literally saved my skin. She also offers a Prenatal Facial. What’s better than that?
Massage: We’re so lucky that you can find the talented Justin Eddinger right here at Mama’s! I discovered Justin on my last birthday and I’m never straying elsewhere. Prenatal as well!
Acupuncture: I have been devoted to Lauren Buckley at South Philly Community Acupuncture ever since she stuck her first needle in me, but I know that all the ladies there are really wonderful (especially Eva). I’ve turned handfuls of peeps onto this place. They can treat any issue male or female including fertility issues and can offer prenatal and postpartum care. Their sliding scale truly makes it best deal in town.
Family Chiropractic: Justin Ohm, D.C. has treated many of my prenatal yogis and doula clients with rave reviews, but he can take care of everyone! Even if you don’t have insurance, he will work with you. Justin’s office in Philadelphia is located in the South Philly Community Acupuncture office and you can also find him here.
Reiki, Medical Intuitive: After just arriving from a very full life in NYC, Reiki Master Christina McCabe walked into MWJ one day, immediately gave us a healing and we were hooked! Find her ‘Healing Room’ here every Thursday at 2pm or contact her at email@example.com for private sessions. She is amazing!
Astrology: Chris Largent did a reading for Mama B ages ago that she claimed changed her life…not to mention that our MWJ friends who attended his workshop here cannot stop talking about their experience! Chris is insanely knowledgable and will offer extensive insight about your chart/life map. Not only that but we can’t think of a better thing for you to do to get to know your child inside and out.
Doulas: There are so many amazing doulas in Philly now, but these two are personal favorite’s! Brittany McCollum at Blossoming Bellies Birth Services and Joy DeCaro (firstname.lastname@example.org)
Placenta Encapsulation: Caroline Ashurst at Restorative Harmony and Melissa DeGezelle (email@example.com) will get you all set up with your very own placenta pills. Who’da thought?!
Birth, Belly, and Baby Photography: Tammy Bradshaw is a friend of ours and such a pleasure to work with! She is the first person we trusted to photograph MWJ and we can’t say enough lovely things about her.
Lactation Consultant: Linda Derbyshire came highly recommended to us by two of our close and trusted Mama friends.
Birth Education and Doula Trainings: Emily Sadri has started teaching our extensive four week and also weekend intensive Child Birth Education. Check all our upcoming dates here. Also, Big ups to Beth Goldberg! This woman inspired and trained me to become a Doula which led me down the path to opening Mama’s Wellness Joint. Bless her! She is the go to woman for Birth Arts International Birth and Postpartum Doula trainings.
Baby Sitter: Need a regular weekly sitter? A date night child care provider that you can entrust with your sweet one/s? Amanda Jacobs is your gal! A Childcare Whisperer, professional nanny, children’s yoga teacher (at MWJ!), and preschool teacher. You will not spend one minute of your time away worrying about your child. Priceless! Contact her at 215.806.2293 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. She has references galore!
Counseling and Psychotherapy: When the going gets tough, I can’t think of a better person to turn to. David Roth LCSW has 12 years of clinical experience with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. He has expertise in incorporating mindfulness into psychotherapy, working with abuse and trauma, and treating anxiety and depression. He is happy to work with all age groups and can be contacted at: email@example.com or 215-840-4475.
Take good care!
